    Hi, I write poetry… I’m 16, wondering if I could come along to a meeting and what-not?

I’ve also got an idea of something which I’m going to call “Travelling Poets” where groups of poets go into the city centre and read their poetry in certain places like coffee shops, game shops, that milkshake shop near the market… My aim is to get more young people into poetry.
Although, since I started writing poetry, a year ago, I’ve come to realise that their are a few young poets in Leicester…

    Hi,
Please do come along to a meeting. We have the poet Jean Sprackland giving a reading on 4th June which should be an enjoyable night – it will cost you £3.00, I’m afraid:)
The weekly workshops are a bit hit and miss and the moment. We don’t, alas, have many young members at present and you may find us a bit old and daunting – we are quite harmless and friendly though.
I like you ‘Travelling Poets’ idea. If it develops, let me know and I’ll see if I can help with publicising it through the Leicester Poetry Society; I’d certainly come along and listen.
Another place to go to read your poetry and to meet fellow poets is Word! at the Y Theatre on East Street. This is a monthly open mic on the first Tuesday in the month. You can see their website at wordpoetry.co.uk
    Best regards
    Graham

    How do I join?

  4. admin says:

There are no events at LPS until September after the Annual General meeting. Information on how to join will be on the website shortly after the AGM ( date to be announced but early September is likely).

I am a several times published poet and have been told that there is a reader’s week in early October. Though I’ve checked various websites associated with Leicester I’ve found nothing to suggest such an event. Please could you either e-mail me details or post to Robin Perry ay 39 Cherrybrook Close, Leicester LE4 1EH so that I can follow this up, please.

    Many thanks for your trouble.

    Robin Perry
