  2. E P Fletcher says:

I am in the process of digitising all my late father’s works (J.P.Fletcher – the Coalville poet).
He was a member of the LPS for many years in the 50’s 60’s 70’s 80’s and won renown at the Festival of Britain with his long poem ‘Unprofitable Journey?’ about mining. This was subsequently extended with two more parts and published in 1956 as ‘Tally 300′. I’ve recently found tape recordings, made by my father, of ‘Tally 300′ and have just finished transposing them to CD.
One of his plays was performed by your society, I have the handout leaflet, and I am trying to ascertain what year you performed it. From the date on the leaflet (no year) I’ve narrowed it down to 1955, 1960, 1966, 1977 or 1983. Your Chairman at the time was Eric Swift & your Hon Sec Harold Frankel. I remember meeting both of them.
If you would e-mail me I will forward a scan of the leaflet for your perusal and any other information that may require.
I am also hoping to try to get his works re-published/performed and would welcome any advice.

    Regards Paul Fletcher

    Hi Paul,

Ive been recently tracing my family history, I was adopted but my birth mother Miranda Frankel was the daughter of Harold Frankel who was a member of LPS. Sadly my grandad passed away the year before I was born and my mother Miranda also, ten years ago.H I am looking to find out a bit more about Harold and the books he liked or anything he wrote. Having noticed you mentioned him I wondered if you could help me.
    Regards

I know very little about your grandfather apart from meeting him several times in the 1950’s at my parent’s home in Coalville. I have finally tracked down my original query regarding my father’s play that was performed by the LPS; futher delving into my father’s archives came up with 1955. If you wish to meet I am in Leicester.

    Paul

I don’t really know anything about your grandfather other than his visits to my parent’s house in the 1950s.
However, if you want to get in touch directly by e-mail, go to my website http://www.pandcgen.co.uk and follow link Contact Us.

i would like to submit some poetry. may i?

  7. admin says:

If you become a member of the LPS you can submit poetry for publication in the Society’s magazine, The Stanza. Alternatively, the Society holds open workshops where you can bring copies of your poems along for advice and review by other workshoppers. There are no workshops this summer but keep an eye on the website for information on the Autumn programme.
    Meanwhile, keep writing!

  8. Mavina Baker says:

    Hello

I’m trying to trace a poem which I think was written by J P Fletcher. There is a line, upturned faces, silent as flowers, and it may be about a travelling show/circus, but that is all I remember. Can you help at all?

    Kind regards
    Mavina Baker

  9. E P Fletcher says:

    Mavina

I’ve searched all that I’ve digitised, including his poem ‘The Circus’ and cannot find this quote. If it’s from his published long poem Tally 300, then I’ve not at present digitised this as I have it in both the book and audio form.

If you want to contact me directly please do so at pandcf@o2.co.uk
